As a mental health provider who admits to not having much experience, professional and otherwise, with BPD, it feels deeply irresponsible for you to post this article. You share one presentation of BPD, one where the person is manipulative and destructive. FWIW, there are nine DSM-5 criteria for BPD, and you only need five to be diagnosed. This means there are ample presentations of the disorder. As a psychotherapist, shouldn't you have made this clear here? I feel like you'd know better.

Those who specialize in the treatment of BPD, such as Dr. Linehan, view any maladaptive behavior associated with the disorder (manipulation, splitting, etc). as trauma responses, as means of getting needs met. Most of the time, people with BPD are not being malicious in their manipulation or outbursts; they don't have other coping skills available. That's where therapy comes into play.

BPD is one of the most complex mental health disorders, and also one of the most painful. Not only that, is is highly misunderstood and this article further contributes to the stigma of people with BPD. Given the fact you're a psychotherapist talking about people with BPD in such demonizing ways, people are going to take your words as truth. Do better.

Finally, this is not to say that BPD cannot be disruptive to the people in our lives. Of course it is, just as any mental illness can be. But we need more compassion and understanding, not judgment. Also, can you not compare us to murderers, that would be dope.
